COCOA SHELLS MAKING STEAM FOR COCOA BEAN PROCESSING

Cocoa processing plants are often located in remote areas with little or no access to fossil fuels. The cocoa shells represent up to 10 % of the processing capacity of a typical plant, and often have no market value. VYNCKE offers combustion systems to convert the cocoa shells into a reliable supply of steam for the sterilization, roasting and grinding process. Our systems effectively address the challenges of cocoa shells as a boiler fuel, and even allow co-generation (combined heat and power supply).

COCOA SHELLS TO ENERGY

“From bean to bar, the cocoa seed goes on a journey of many changes…”

Guan Chong Berhad is a Malaysia-based cocoa processor largely involved in the manufacturing of cocoa-derived food ingredients. A result of this is the large amounts of cocoa shell waste that they generate from their processes.

They needed a solution!

When Bühler and Vyncke formed a strategic partnership to offer integrated solutions with the overall goal of reducing carbon emissions, Guan Chong knew they had found the way forward with partners of the same vision.
